Nitecore is famous with its high lumen output LED flashlights and among these, so called Tiny Monster LED flashlights are the stars of Nitecore offer. Nitecore’s Tiny Monster LED flashlight series are the brightest among Nitecore flashlights with outputs as high as 6000 lumens. Two most popular are TM26 and TM28 high lumen output LED flashlights with 4000 and 6000 lumens. The latest in the range of Nitecore’s Tiny Monster is the new Nitecore TM28. Actually, it represents a natural evolution of the TM26, only now with the power of the new generation of CREE LEDs (4x CREE XHP35 HI CW). Since it’s an improved version it costs approximately $140 more than TM26. Is it worth paying this price difference? In order to help you to decide whether you will buy TM26 or TM28 we made a research and bellow you can find our results and comparison between these two versions.
Nitecore TM26 vs Nitecore TM28
First of all, we need to say that both models are rechargeable LED flashlights similar in appearance with 4 x CREE LEDs. However, TM26 uses 4 x Li-ion rechargeable 18650 batteries and TM28 uses 4 x rechargeable IMR or Li-ion 18650 batteries as a power source. You can use 8 x CR123 non-rechargeable single-use batteries or 8x RCR123 Li-ion batteries but we do not recommend it because it will reduce the quality of the overall experience. Also, TM28 has improved 4 x CREE XHP35 HI LEDs giving the output of 6000 lumens and TM26 with 4 x CREE XM-L2 U3 LEDs is capable to give “only” 4000 lumens. Because of the high lumen outputs both TM26 and TM28 are ideal as flashlights for search and rescue operations. At both models users can use 5 different outputs: turbo, high, mid, low and ultra low. Also, they have 3 special functions like Strob, SOS and location beacon. In table below you can compare runtime for both models depending on the output selected.
|Turbo||4000 lumens – runtime 45 mins||6000 lumens – runtime 45 min|
|High||900 lumens – runtime 2 hrs 30 mins||2300 lumens – runtime 2 hours|
|Mid||700 lumens – runtime 8 hrs 15 mins||1000 lumens – runtime 4 hrs 30 mins|
|Low||230 lumens – runtime 48 hrs||320 lumens – 11 hrs 15 mins|
|Ultra Low||3 lumens – 1000 hrs||2 lumens – runtime 1000 hrs|
Both TM26 and TM28 are IPX8 waterproof and equipped with integrated multifunctional OLED display through which you can get real-time updates about battery status, brightness level and temperature. When you need to recharge them (you will know it because the power indicator blinks rapidly) just plug in the included AC adapter with intelligent charging circuit meaning that it will choose the charging mode based on battery type. Maximum distance of light beam at TM26 is 455m and at TM28 655m. We hope that this review and comparison table below will help you to choose between these two compact and durable LED flashlights.
